BEDROOM

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and memorable celebration. You know what I did? Stayed home, drank some wine, and watched the ball drop with Michael and my pups and I couldn’t have loved it more!

My most asked question in my DMs, surprisingly, is ‘what color is your accent wall in your bedroom?’ I painted this room back in January 2021, and I have NO regrets. Friendly reminder if you’re renting.. you can always paint it back!

My bedroom was originally a grey color which was still pretty, but not really the vibe I was going for. I knew I wanted an accent wall in my bedroom, but was unsure of what color to paint it. I was considering olive green, dark green, or black. Michael and I went to Lowes and got roughly 5-6 samples. We painted 3 large squares on our walls - which I recommend doing when painting your home. Paint in various parts in your house large squares of each color. The reason for this is because some places in your house has less light than others, therefore, the color can look good in the light but not so good in darker spaces.

Luckily, since my bedroom is fairly small I only painted on one part of the wall. After much discussion and indecisiveness, Michael and I finally agreed on the wall color. Jasper by Sherman Williams

I love how the accent wall also makes the bed frame and nightstands pop! At first I wanted to add sconces (still would if needed), but our can lights do wonders and we can deem them for a nightly mood so there was no need for them.

As many may know there are a MILLION of white paint options out there (newsletter on that soon!). I was insanely overwhelmed, but I worked on choosing the accent wall first then figured what white paint color would look best! Personally, pure white was blinding to me considering the green was so dark. Therefore, I choose a yellow-toned white paint. Creamy by Sherman Williams

Note that I had also bought all the furniture in the room before painting the room (long story short we were still in NYC when we got this townhouse so I had to order all new furniture to CA before our arrival). With that, I had to make sure that the color we were choosing also went well with our rug, bed, and nightstands!

Parachute Sham
Silk Pillow Case
Nightstands
Dyson Air Purifier
Basket
Rug (I got a washable rug because my dogs enjoy throwing up on rugs, so I needed something that I can easily wash and is super affordable!)
Throw Pillow (This is an old West Elm throw, but I linked a similar one)
Throw Blanket (This is another old West Elm throw, but I linked a similar one)
Olive Plant
Diffuser
Phone Charger

In the future, I want to add a gallery wall on the wall parallel to our accent wall. Here is where I’m thinking of ordering them from: Framebridge!

Your bedroom should definitely be your sanuaury where you can relax and wind down. If you’re on the fence on having your own accent wall, this is your sign to DO IT!

Kathleen
