Transforming a Townhouse

Hi! I know it’s been a while, but I’m back and ready! I have so much to show you, and I couldn’t be more excited. I recently had the pleasure of completing an interior design project for a client’s townhouse, and the result was nothing short of perfect. This project was all about functionality, ensuring timely deliveries, and creating a cohesive, personalized space that perfectly suits my client’s needs. Here’s a breakdown of how we achieved a harmonious blend of function and style across each area of the home.

Starting with the Kitchen: Form Meets Function

Kitchen Island | Stools | Vase | Gallery Wall

We began with the kitchen, where my client initially envisioned adding cabinet storage along a wall to create more drawer space. However, after discussing their love for hosting, I suggested a kitchen island instead. The island not only offered ample storage below but also provided additional seating and surface area for serving guests. We found an island that fit the kitchen perfectly and seamlessly matched the existing decor, looking as though it was always part of the design.

We also added a gallery wall to the kitchen. My client had considered purchasing new picture frames, but during our discussions, I noticed she already owned some beautiful frames that had been sitting unused. By rearranging the photos and creatively positioning the frames both horizontally and vertically, we achieved a stunning, personalized gallery wall that added character to the space—while also saving her some money.

BRINGING COLOR AND WARMTH TO THE LIVING ROOM

Couch | Coffee Table | Rug | Stools | Light

Next, we focused on the living room, which originally had a very neutral, all-white palette. To introduce some color and warmth, I selected a gorgeous green rug that instantly tied the space together. We then chose a comfortable yet stylish couch, a sleek coffee table, and colorful bar stools that subtly enhanced the room’s flow. These pieces blended perfectly, creating an inviting and lively atmosphere.

Lighting was another key element in the living room. Since the only light source previously came from the kitchen, I added a playful statement light fixture to enhance the room’s ambiance and coziness. Remember, lighting is EVERYTHING in a home - not just a selfie!

CREATING FUNCTIONALITY AND STYLE IN THE ENTRYWAY

The entryway is a crucial space that often gets overlooked, so I was excited to create a functional yet stylish area for my client. She needed a place to organize her packages, shoes, dog items, and display decorative pieces. We opted for baskets tucked neatly under a bench for shoe storage, trays for mail and packages, and a mix of vases, picture frames, and decorative boxes that double as stylish storage solutions. The result was an organized, welcoming entryway that keeps everything in its place while making a great first impression.

Enhancing the Bathroom: Simple Yet Impactful

Console

In the bathroom, we wanted to add more storage without cluttering the space. I suggested a sleek console table with woven baskets underneath, perfect for storing extra toilet paper, towels, and other essentials. This small addition was both practical and visually pleasing, adding a touch of elegance and warmth to the bathroom.

Revisiting the Dining Area: Blending Old and New

Dining Chairs | Vase

The dining area was a unique challenge because it involved working with elements from my client’s previous home. In her last place, we used darker tones to balance out a predominantly wooden space. In this new townhouse, she wanted a warmer atmosphere, so we softened those darker elements by incorporating color and greenery. Adding plants and warm accents helped us seamlessly blend her old pieces into this new, cozier environment.

Final Thoughts: A Cohesive, Welcoming Space

In the end, the townhouse perfectly reflects my client’s personality and lifestyle. By blending smart design choices with cost-effective solutions and repurposing existing pieces, we created a home that feels both cohesive and inviting. From the functional kitchen island and personalized gallery wall to the vibrant living room and organized entryway, each space flows beautifully into the next.

This project was a wonderful reminder that great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about crafting spaces that are both practical and personal. I couldn’t be happier with how this project turned out, and more importantly, neither could my client!

xoxo,
Kathleen
